Fuel Guage at "empty" position

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum. I am an avid member of the CorvetteForum.Com. I bought my sister's 92 Explorer last year. I couldn't pass us a great deal for a 92 Explorer, one owner, 100,000 babied miles, always garaged, never hit and regular oil changes, a chicks car. Now I had the nagging problem of the mystery battery drain which I believe I fixed with the input from your "threads." This thread is aobut the fuel guage. It looks like a tank drop is in the future. The fuel guage quit working last spring. It is stuck ar zero (empty). There is no separate fuel guage fuse for a 92. What is the recommended fix from somebody that had this same or similar problem. Great forum site!

Rick,

Sounds like the sender, Im getting ready to replace mine this week. There is an electrrical connection at the rear of the tank, it is circle shaped and should have four pins. The empty read is 14-18 Ohms across the crossbar pins, and full 154-162 ohms so that should give you a quick check of the sender. Check a manual they should have the connector shown(haynes does and the FSMalso the two I have)
Im replacing the sender and the pump. No sense having to pull the tank again in a few months to get a new pump in, preventive maint. Torrie at FPN (banner at top of site) had the unit for 150 +shipping

Good luck

The little float may have filled with gas also. They've been known to develop cracks/pinholes and do that. If the electrical readings are ok from the sender, then it's probably the float. Still have to drop the tank to fix unfortunately. There were several recent threads related to dropping the tank if you want some tips on that job.
