Fuel Injector Cleaner

i am thinking of running a bottle of injector cleaner in my explorer just to see if it helps it run and idle better. As far as i know, the injectors have never been cleaned and it currently has 123,000 miles. But i heard that fuel injector cleaner can hurt the injectors but i think thats BS. But my question is: is it worth it to run fuel injector cleaner or would i be wasting my money.

Your best bet would be to run a can of Sea Foam through the intake.

Sea Foam only cleans the intake and cylinders but does not clean the fuel injectors.
I found blaster fuel injector cleaner from Napa to be the best. Just put it in the tank and that's it. I had to replace my injectors at 127k because I found two of them to be partially clogged. Not sure if the fuel injector cleaned had anything to do with it or not.

You are indeed correct. I forget to mention adding it to the gas to do the injectors; thanks for pointing that out.

BG makes a lot of products for induction cleaning, fuel additives, fuel injector cleaners, oil cleaners, etc. They are a well known company and work.

I have to say that the sea foam does a good job of decarbonizing the cylinders, but I have not found anything that really cleans the injectors. I have tried sea foam in the tank many times and I still ended up replacing my injectors.

We always just put a quart or two of ATF in the gas to clean the injectors.

Do not use nor like the brand gas,but Chevron with techroline injector cleaner (gas additive) is a well thought of injector cleaning agent.

I don't know. I bought my 89 ranger new and ran stp fuel injection cleaner every so often in it. At 187,000 miles (Just gave to my brother) it has never had anything done to the injectors. Good-bad???? All I can say is that is what I have used with no problems for 16 years.

A powerflush for the fuel injectors is probably the best way to clean them. Be careful with fuel tank additive cleaners, as they also remove deposits from your fuel lines and fuel rail, and can end up plugging your injectors rather than clean them.

He brings up a good point. I used the "in tank" cleaner since the ranger was new and was careful about where I bought gas. There was no trash in the fuel tank. I replaced the pump at about 160,000 miles (Just wore out) and the filter on the old one looked like just like the new one.

I have no experience with a power flush, since none of my fuel injected vehicles ever needed one. I have used the in tank stuff in every fuel injected one I have even owned.

I ran TKO kit through my 91 explorer and it worked wonders! Did wonders for the fuel economy~!

Another thing that is pretty weird is Ford does not recommend cleaning fuel injectors, as they are "supposed to be" deposit resistant, and injector cleaner is "supposed to" remove the teflon coating from the injector.

While Ford may not recommend cleaning fuel injectors, the Ford dealers will be more than happy to charge you $150 to do a complete fuel system cleaning or otherwise not warranty tuneup work done on my son's Escort ZX2.

All the ford dealerships are blowing smoke up our a$$s, I get **** in the mail weekly, To maintain your warranty, you must have tranny flushes, you must have radiator service, you must have brake service, and in the fine print: you may void your warranty by not having the prescribed services done at authorised dealerships by trained technicians.
Trained techs my ass, you got a lube rack guy that will change your oil that may have the I;Q of a mushroom, is no better than jiffy lube.
When my trac had 5K miles, I took it in for the first free service (only because it was free)
I stood outside the bay and watched this so called expert like a hawk, he changed the oil, filter etc, took it for a short drive, checked the tranny fluid level, all was well he said.I said: you never checked the rear diff level, back on the rack, they pumped 3 pints to get it full.
The major money in a car dealership is made in the shop, not in the showroom. They will offer and do anything under the guise of the threat of warranty, is all smoke and mirrors IMO

Marval Mystery Oil. Top oils, all may do the deed, so may distilled water.

Fuel injector cleaner is only about $2 a bottle around here, about the same price as ATF anyway, so you are not really saving any money by using that, rather than inj cleaner...

Also, some of the additives in ATF (friction modifiers, anti-foaming agents) could pose a threat to the O2 sensors, if the vehicle in question has them.
