i have a 1993 explorer with a stock 4.0 engine . iv tuned it up and changed both oxygen sensors . iv gutted out the cat , thinking it was clogged . it still has the same prob tho . rough idle and down the road the check engine light comes on and goes off . it does this usally down a straight away while at a steady speed .
my question , will a partially clogged fuel injector cause it to idle rough ,but do great while cruising .
also will a v-8 302 injector fir the v-6 4.0

rough idle could be a problem with the injectors but a cleaning is fairly expensive around 80 or so i've been told. i hear that you can do it yourself by removing the injectors CAREFULLY and letting them soak in mineral spirits for and hour or so. injectors could be the problem because at idle the rpms are low and the amount of fuel coming throught the injectors is very small. but under acceleration more fuel is forced through basically disguising the problem. before you decided to have them cleaned or clean them out yourself try running some Chevron Techron through will a tank of 93 and see what happens. but many other things could cause rough idle too. check your plugs and your airbox, your fuel filter and have your fuel pressure checked. hope this is helpful.

Another cause for rough idle is loss of vacuum to the engine (if a hose came off somewhere). Just a suggestion.
