This past week I noticed a fuel leak in my 93 Explorer. It is not very noticable at first, until I actually look. After the vehicle stops you can see a small puddle of gas right under the fuel tank. Perhaps about as much as would be in the fuel line. Restarting the vehicle is difficult wihtout any fuel in the line.

My best guess is a leak at the connection of the line to the tank. Is this an easy fix or does the tank need to come down? I'm wary of driving for fear of a stray cigarette turning old faithful into a roman candle.

Any help appreciated.

My brother had the same problem with his 92 XLT. The problem that he had was that the ring that holds the fuel pump in was rusted out and the pressure of the gas going though the pump is causing gas to shoot out of the cracks in the ring. If this is the fact with your Explorer, the gas tank will have to be dropped and the ring and possibly the fuel tank will have to be replaced. Hopefully it is nothing more than something that is disconnected.
