Help: The Vehicle: 2000 Explorer sport (late version no fuel return line with regulator internal to pump in the tank), with a 4.0 SOHC Auto 4X4. The fuel pressure as measured at idle on the fuel rail: 63psi
question: isn't that a bit high? I always thought that it should be 35-45 psi at idle with a maximum of 65 psi. All of the books I can access says "key on" is 30 to 65 not running but they also state Ford won't release the actual pressure while running at idle for this system and to take it to the dealer. Our Ford dealer where I bought it won't let me talk to a tech to find out either.
Vehicle's gas milage all of a sudden dropped to 12 mpg vice the normal avg 18 and 23 highway:exp: that I was getting. Has the correct new motocrraft plugs, new Fram air filter & Motocraft fuel filter. No misses detected, no check engine light or codes from the PCM and no black smoke from the exhaust pipe. It runs like scalded dog but the fuel milage is getting to me. Anybody know what the "at idle" fuel pressure should be? I don't want to drop this tank and spend $250.00 for nothing.
