I'm wondering if it is neccesary to replace the fuel injectors when the fuel pressure regulator has gone whacko and pushing in too much fuel.

Can you provide a little more information as to how you determined that they are delivering too much fuel?

The excessive black smoke coming out the exhaust especially at idle and acceleration. Then an auto repair shop. I am mostly trying to verify their diagnosis/work order(repairs needed)..

Never heard of replacing the injectors just for that reason. The amount of fuel delivery is controlled by a couple of sensors that need to be inspected for proper function before even coming close to considering the injectors as a problem.
