fuel pressure regulator

where can i find the factory fuel pressure regulator? and if i put a new regulator and fmu on it do i have to remove the old equipment?

The factory FPR on your 02 Trac is inside the fuel tank on the pump unit. From the tank, a single line goes forward to the engine compartment (returnless fuel system).

IMO, it would be better to upsize the injectors and tank pump volume, have a custom calibration made and forget about the FMU. You could also convert it to a return fuel system if desired.

If you really want an FMU, I'll sell you the one I didn't use.
 






all im needing to do is just up the fuel pressure a little tho. just enough to compensate for 7psi. and i really dont wanna start modifying too heavily or dumping a bunch of money into it. would the fmu work well enough? and where could i get some bigger injectors??
 






Yes, the FMU can be made to work. The problem, as I see it, is that all of this added plumbing is not a very good way to control fuel delivery vs boost. Doing it in the PCM calibration would allow more precision.

Powertrain Control Module that controls the engine, transmission and emission systems. Check your messages.
 






how and where does the pressure switch and aux pump install? i already an fmu on the way.
 






On those that I have seen for returnless systems, the pump and the FMU are plumbed in parallel into the factory line between the fuel filter and the fuel rail. The pressure switch is installed in the intake manifold.
 






ok. ive seen setups with only the fmu and no switch or pump. is that not ok? and what pressure ratio should the fmu be calibrated for to run 7 to 8psi?
 






On a return fuel system (which you do not have), the FMU could be plumbed into the factory return line. In that position, it can progressively shut down the return fuel flow to up the pressure while under boost. As long as the stock pump could deliver the higher pressure/volume necessary, it would not need to be upgraded (nor would you need the switch and aux pump). However, none of that applies to your ST which has a returnless system.

I don't know what FMU specs you would need.

I assume that we are talking about the pressure switch for the aux pump. You could drill and tap the manifold or use fittings to adapt it to an existing manifold vac source.

Returnless fuel can be converted to return fuel. You would need a different in tank pump assembly, a different fuel rail w/FPR and an added return line. You'd also need a different PCM calibration.
 






ok screw the conversion lol. so all i would have to do is tap into a vacuum line like how i did on my boost guage? and how does the switch work with the aux pump?
 






It turns the pump on via a relay when the switch makes contact. The switch is usually adjusted to make that happen when the manifold pressure goes positive (boost).

so would any kind of performance inline fuel pump work? like MSD or Mr. Gasket? and if so then what pressure does it need to be ran at??
