Fuel Pump and Check Engine Light

Hello Everyone,

Is it common for the check engine light to come on and the fuel pump primes up when I turn the key to accessory? I am thinking that something is NOT QUITE RIGHT!!

The check engine light comes on to verify that the lamp is still working and the pump primes for 3-5 seconds.

I am just confused as to why it comes on when in ACCESSORY. None of my other vehicles do this???? Seems like if I had one more detent on the Key I could start it right up.
