fuel pump going out???

i am hearing a humming i think its the fuel pump, does this mean its going out?? i noticed it today, coming from the rear of the car where the fuel pump would be, any suggestions?? its a 95 explorer, thanks:roll:

It sounds like you are on the right track. You might want to consider replacing the fuel filter to see if that helps quiet the pump down.

so u think its the filter not the pump?? i sure hope so

If the filter is clogged, it will make the pump work harder. It's a lot easier to replace the filter than the pump.

Is the noise the only thing that makes you think it's going out? Every fuel pump will make some noise. Maybe you just haven't noticed it until now? My Ex has a fairly new Bosch fuel pump in it and I can hear it even with the engine running. Usually a good fuel pump will make a high pitched whine and a bad pump will make more of a low pitched hum.

im hearing a humming, not real low but not extremely loud, its amking me paranoid and i havent been driving truck alot, im afraif it will leave me stranded, i really wish i knew, something, usually when a pump is bad it just goes, never heard this before so im lost
