I just replaced the fuel pump on my 4.0 liter '98 Explorer Sport. I also replaced the fuel pressure regulator. I still can't get it to start. It will start with ether (which leads me to believe the injectors are working) and there is good pressure as indicated by the pressure release valve on the side of the motor, it'll shoot gas clear out of the engine compartment. I'm at a loss. Upon turning the key on you can hear the pump run momentarily then it stops. HELP!!!

crankshaft position sensor?

. . . If you start it with ether does it continue to run? If not, then you have ignition but the fuel injectors are not pulsing. The fuel pump runs for a few seconds when the ignition is switched from off to on and when the PCM determines the engine is rotating via a signal from the crankshaft position sensor. You might try cleaning the contacts on the crankshaft position sensor by disconnecting/reconnecting the electrical connector a few times.

It has a new crankshaft sensor. I'll try disconnecting and reconnecting then report back...and yes, I should've clarified. It will start then die with ether.
