Hello,

My 2002 explorer skipped a few beats while running parked, or at red lights over the last couple weeks. It came to a climax when I started it, put it in gear, it stalled and could not get it going again. I had it towed to what I think is a legitamite mechanic. They diagnosed it as a failed fuel pump and are asking $900 to replace it, parts, labor and taxes.

My question is, does this sound like a legitamite cost, and is this an easy fix? I am middle of the road as far as my mechanical/technical capability to repair things. The $900 sounds like a lot.

Thanks for all responses!!!

Figure a new "fuel pump assembly" will cost between $150- $275 for the part. I looked up some fuel pump prices and this is what I got. The V-6's are a little cheaper than the V-8's. Expect the repair shop you are using to tack on a shop surcharge to the price of the part.
