Fuel Pump Whine...

I'm in the throes of purchasing a 91 XLT, and have noticed a substantial whine from the fuel pump. When I took the vehicle in for a pre-purchase inspection at a garage, they said this was quite normal, and I should be more concerned if I did not hear it...
Is there any truth to this?
BTW, the asking price for this is $8000 CDN - sound alright? Everything appears mint other than the fuel pump.

Yep, the fuel pump does whine . . . that is normal as long as it shuts off when you turn off the key, but that's another story.
