Fuel pump

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger. I think the fuel pump might be going out. Lately there is no sound from the pump and the truck will not start. in a few hours I tried it and there was sound and the truck started. Just guessing, but does that sound like a bad fuel pump?

Before condemning the pump, check the Inertia Fuel Shutoff switch. This is a safety device intended to cut fuel after an impact but the part sometimes gets intermittent with age. The next time it won't start, try resetting the switch - passenger side footwell area. If resetting helps, it may be time for a new one.
