I have a 98 Explorer V8. I noticed the engine running slightly rough at times when idling, cruising, and up through about 70% throttle. If I am accelerating, it will feel rather bogged down/hesitant/rough (not obvious to someone unless you have driven it for as long as I have) until I reach about 70%, then it takes off like whatever was holding it back is no longer causing the problem. This is sporadic.
I put a code reader on it and the only code (which has been on for probably 5 years) is the evap sensor. When I looked at the live data, I noticed the B1S1 O2 sensor fuel trims running at -23.4% when it is running rough and it switches over to +42.1% when it runs good. This is occurring whether it is idling, cruising, or accelerating, but it is consistent.
This problem was getting worse. Then, I just recently had a complete fuel system tune up and new cats put on. It minimized the problem but it never truly went away.
Any ideas?
