This question was asked recently by someone else, but I am asking again as my vehicle has been sitting at the dealership for over 6 weeks and I am getting desperate. 02 Ford explorer xlt V-6. service department says I need a new fuel tank, which Ford no longer makes. I asked them to try to find an aftermarket. They say they cannot use one from Rock Auto (explanation unclear as to why). Online I have found a Spectra and Replace part F50C that, according to the spectra website, will work on my vehicle. However, website states the capacity as 17.5 gallons, which is smaller than mine. Would there be any mechanical problem caused by using a smaller tank, assuming that it can be fastened onto the vehicle? Or can anyone PLEASE suggest a source for obtaining this part? Surely there is some way to get a fuel tank for this vehicle, which otherwise runs fine.

JY is another option. a smaller tank wont cause an issue, imo except for maybe the fuel gauge being off depending on how its measured. not sure why RA cant be used, unless its for warranty reasons
