A similar thing happened to me in a Fairlane.
In my case the sheath of the cruise control cable had separated and hooked up on something.
It happened after i had been driving at 110kmh (70ish MPH)and touched the brake to disengage the CC when I took an exit off the highway
The exit curled back around a full 270degrees and was a little tricky to take at 100kmh zoned at 60kmh.
