Hi all,
I have a problem that seems to be back wards from the normal I have found within the forums.
Ill start with specs:
96 Explorer Limited 4x4, 4.0 Litre, 4r44e Trans, Borg Warner 4405 TC,
68,000 miles.
Now for the how it happened:
Recently got the vehicle stuck, proceeded to rock the vehicle to get moving, 4x4 hasn't worked for a while. In the process of rocking the vehicle I found myself "locked" in Drive. I got a buddy to pull me out, pulled the truck over the pit to check linkages and such, all seemed ok externally. Pushed it out, started in neutral and drove it home (5.4 miles) as Drive is working fine. I started doing some research as to the problem, but haven't seen this particular issue asked about. So here I am asking

What has been done:
Tried to pull any codes, my reader doesn't read trans codes. I dropped the pan, checked the manual shift parts all seem ok, harness to solenoids
appears to be ok. Upon reviewing many other peoples issues with these transmissions I decided to order and install a rebuilt valve body, as it seemed I may have solenoid issues. After install, while on the stands I filled and tested the transmission (with driveline out) the output shaft did not turn when vehicle was started unless engaged in gear (thought it was fixed). Finished assembly and took off stands. When I started the truck it was engaged in first gear.
Also installed a new TC to restore 4x4 functions to the truck.
Previous maintenance:
First 30,000 no idea, 32,000/45,000/60,000 trans filter changes with pan fluid (6-7 qts).
Engine swap at 30,000 due to accident and subsequent overheat(I got the truck cheap due to this)
No other major issues.
I'm currently checking with some buddies to find someone with a scanner to read any available trans codes. Or someone here may have a work around to flash any codes or something to that effect. Besides the possibly someone may have had this issue, and has a better direction for me to follow.
