It is a pleasure for me to drive my X, I am 6'5" and the power seats give me more leg room then I need. Most cars/trucks even the new explorer don't have the leg room of the first gen. I love drving my breadbox on wheels!

yeah i like the car a lot too. we have been getting along pretty well since i got it. i opened the door in my face on the dealership parking lot. it had 14 km's on it when i got in. and i was so happy that it wasnt for a while till i realised a warm trickel down my forehead, then i checked my head in the mirror to find i had nearly split my head open, still got the scar.

Now thats love at first sight!

Of course I like to drive it. I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't.

*Darkman gets on his soapbox... again*

*That is EXACTLY why my truck is and always will be stock. I don't need a lift to have fun off road and I DO need my truck to handle well the other 90% of the time.

**It really IS an ugly, boxy, heavy SUV and it cost a college education to turn it into a moster like Rick's. If you want a trailer queen, buy a J**P or Toyota. If you want a sports car, buy one ( ). BUT, if you're talking about owning a vehicle you can take off road once in a while and use everyday for everything...

:redexp: It's a Ford and it's Ford tough.
:redexp: It's ten times more reliable than anything jeep has EVERY built.
:redexp: It's got ten times more room inside than anything in it's class. (I've hauled a full sized washer and dryer set in the back without even moving my tool box that's strapped to the floor rings. Try THAT in a Grand Cherokee.)
:redexp: I can follow a stock Jeep up any trail anywhere and eventually pass it.
:redexp: I can drive it on a sunny, spring day or in 3 feet of snow and never know the difference.
:redexp: I figure if I dent the body on some rocks it can only be MORE aerodynamic and BETTER looking.

*** Amen and Hallelujah brother, long live the Ex!!!

Tell me THIS isn't fun!

Hell yeah DarkMan!! Glad to see that I am not the only one who puts their stock X thru some hell. It is good for them, and they like it!

I had to go with "na, not really".

It's not fun to drive on the road. It's slow, it's ugly, and nobody notices it. But that's what an Explorer is, so I'm not blaming the vehicle itself.

What I can blame the vehicle for is the fact that it's not reliable. AAA recognizes my cell phone on the called ID. Whenever I leave my house, I never know if I'll get where I'm going. I'm tired of my friends passing me on the side of the highway on the way of school, I'm tired of having to bum rides from friends when it's in the shop.

It is fun offroad. Except that doesn't happen enough. And with my on-road reliability problems, I shudder to imagine what could happen on a trail.

But oh well. It's what I got, so what can I do

33"s
better than stock handling
fun ride
good stereo
lots of fun gadgets
throw you in the seat acceleration
..and that supercharger whine!

Need I say more?

unreliable??

Diablo,

I'm really sorry that your Ex treats you wrong. I can honestly say that's the first time I've ever heard an Ex owner use that word to describe their truck.

I do know first hand about the Ford Lemon phenom. It seems to me that Ford makes the toughest, most reliable truck-based vehicles in the U.S., but when a Ford comes off the line with problems, it's doomed for life.

I had a Ranger for a while in high school that turned me into a Chevy man for the following 5 years, right up until I was coerced into buying my Ex. The fuel gage was screwed up, so I never knew when I was low on gas AND the fuel filter would plug up every time the gas got low. It ate batteries and alternators for lunch, so when the filter did plug up, I'd run the battery down trying to get it started. The AC didn't work. The starter worked when it wanted to. I could go on and on.

I've talked to a lot of people about this and I'm convinced it's true. If you have more than one problem at a time with a Ford, get rid of it!!! Find another one and you'll have about a 90% chance of getting a truck that will last 2-3 hundred thousand miles.

(Notice I only mentioned the trucks. Ford cars on the other hand... )

normally I would say it is a blast, but right now it would be a chore. I need a couple really strong short people under the front to hold it up and run really fast...

LOL :D

To address Darkman, for the first 80,000 miles or so the truck got very little maintenance done, so that is probably a contributing factor. Also, when we do get work done it rarely gets done right, so it has to be redone (ie, 3 brake system rebuilds in 2 years). It really isn't the vehicle's fault I guess, and I was just in a bad mood last night.

Oh well

i love my X... but she does annoy me once in a while (please don't tell her i said that)

I would say it was a blast but i do enjoy driving my stock 8 year old truck

I would live in my truck if it had enough room (I put too much crap in it) ;)

Old post! But yeah, I love driving my trucks. More the Limited than the XL. Comfy, quiet, and not slow. Perfect seat, instrumentation, and vision. Limited slip with automatic 4x4 for the snow. Not too big, not too small. Leather mixed with a cherry air freshener and no smoking ever inside smells good.

My stick shift XL is fun too. Not the best in comfort, a little too loud on the freeway with the Flowmaster, and still kinda smells bad, but has enough power to sink youself in the seat and pass when needed.
