the yellow wire on a headunit is always hot.
it controls memory functions such as clock, bass, treble, fader, etc...

you can fuse it if you want, but it is not necessary (misspelled, i think). the headunit itself has fuses to protect it.

if you get a wire harness for your explorer (you can buy it at wal-mart) it will connect to the factory hot wire. the install only takes a few minutes.

are you sure, cuz this is a pretty heavy wire with an inline 20 amp fuse

all companies fuse their HU's different. alpine uses an inline fuse, so just leave it there and attach it to the wire harness. believe me, i do installs for a living. the wire is thicker than most, but does not require special modification to install the HU.
if the current is too high, the worst that will happen is a blown fuse.
4X60 is the max power, really it only puts out about 26 watts rms per channel.

ok so that big wire should be hooked up to the small yellow one?

thick yellow wire to thinner one on wire harness?

yes
the factory HU wiring will work fine

leejen, good news-powered correctly that way you told me
bad news- no sound out of speakers
what is the solution to this?

hmmmm.......... if you have an amp, check the remote power lead fuse.

does it make any sound?? (hiss, crackle, etc..)

make sure your speaker connections are correct.

it's hard to diagnose a problem like this over the internet.

ya i'm not hearing ANYTHING from the speakers. i double checked the wires and connections again and tried again and i'm still not hearing any music or anything out of the speakers

it's hard to tell without actually being there. try everything.
pop in a CD, play around with settings and the fader.

if still nothing, then it might be defective (being in the business, i do see some defective merchandise occasionally). bring it back to the store where you got it. they will test it, and replace it if defective.

oh yeah, do you have a factory amp?
if so try bypassing it, it will sound better anyway.

i wish i could be more help

Is there a remote line lead to the stock amp that needs to be connected? If the amp was not bypassed, it's probably not turning on to process sound.

ok guys its working. i just soldered the 2 white and blue wires together for amp. did i bypass it? thats what i want to do along with better speakers. i can really really crank my system loud but it sounds like the speakers can't handle it

it's not that hard to get to the factory amp.
for someone who has never done it, it'll probably take about 15 minutes.

the factory amp has a lot more distortion than an aftermarket amp of headunit. if you bypass it, you will have a much cleaner sound and you can crank it louder without distortion. you have a great headunit, don't make it sound cheap because of the factory amp.

do i need to bypass the amp? or would it be better not to and let my hu run everything? is that what is happening now? thanx, regulator

To bypass it, you have to get to the factory amp in the passanger rear cargo area behind the plastic (see "pain in the a$$")
but besides that you have to physicially connect the wires back there or else you have to run new wires up to the front of your truck. ya heard?

bypassing the amp is letting the HU run everything. your headunit will give a much cleaner and louder sound if you bypass the amp.
you can get a factory amp bypass wire harness, or do it yourself by cutting the wires. just remove the plastic panel on the passenger side in the cargo area. you'll see the amp in there.
it should only take a few minutes. it will be easier with the harness though, just plug it in.
