For those who are looking into an air/nitro-sprung SAS configuration.. ive been looking at Fox and SAW but the 2.0 versions are right at the limits of an Explorer's weight.. so obviously you'd have to look into wider bodied shocks (force = pressure * area).

fox does make a 2.5 (im not sure about SAW) but i found another company that makes a shock of about the same spec (2.5" body) for about $60 less per shock , and is only about $15 dollars more than the fox 2.0 shock:

of course i have no idea what the dependability is but just this is just an FYI thing.

are 2.5's what ur going to run with? personally, im still debating between air shox and leaves (cauz i already have the leaves). but take pix as soon as u get em on! i wanna see ur config.

Oh and In addition to my original post, Walker Evans also has 2.0"s but again, its a 2.0" body and its probably along the same spec as the 2.0s from Fox and SAW - but a few dollars more.
.

i have some 2.5x14 SAWs and i am happy with them. i think 2.0s are a lil small. but then again you guys are crawlin over boulders at idle speeds while im hittin pebbles at 70. ;) SAWs are the cheapest ive found but are still good quality and thats what Camburg suspension sells with thier setups.

moi? i'm just planning so nothing is definite but i was thinking the usual 14-15" of travel - everyone else seems to be happy with these specs so why not (Jefe's running 14" coil overs so thats about the same spec, and i'd probably be copying jefe's approach as far as hoops and hoop support goes).

im still debating between air shox or leaves tho cauz i already have the leaves (from a wagoneer) so the leaves approach would be the most cost effective since all i pretty much have to do is hang them to the chassis. plus with the air shox, id still have to get some long arms or maybe make some. but the air shox is so simple its freaking unbelievable and attractive. oh and if im going to go air shox, id have to go with the 15" from xtremeCrawlers since those have the 2.5" body and are a lot cheaper than the Fox 2.5".

as for building a set of long arms, im looking around for the proper steel. personally i like how the clayton off road "hard arms" work and they have recieved great reviews. so if i were to make some long arms, id probably try to go with this approach (square tubing, johnny joints and heims.. btw i hate the word "johnny joint" - who the front door is johnny?).

I run full Nitrogen shocks on "Crazy Too". A little more pricey, but nothin better......... :D

yes im running a coilover version but the only difference is that the body of my shock is threaded to put springs over it. you can run the threaded body shock with your wagoneer leaf springs and no coils for now if your looking to save money. then when your financially ready to coil over and ditch the leafs you can just throw some coils on that same shock.
i got my shocks from www.mckenzies.com. its more of a sand rail/dune buggy shop but they sell the SAWs, foxs and those shocks. i think my SAW 2.5x14 shocks were like 239.99 each plus tax. theyre website says more but i think i called them and they gave me the cheaper price. call em. the only thing is they are in california so you would have to compare the shipping costs to what you can get shocks for locally in your town.
