I just got myself a 2008 Mountaineer (LOVE IT BTW) but I forgot to screw on the cap after the first filling and realized it whent he gas cap light came on in the dash computer. I quickly put the cap back on and hit reset but its been amost a week now and the light still comes on every time I start it up. Will it go away anytime soon or do I need my dealer to look at it?

:)THANKS

Your 2008 Mountaineer has gas cap? Mine came with the capless filler system. Does the light come on as just part of the start-up system check for a second or two? Or does it stay on for more than a few seconds? The former might be normal.

On start up in the message center the gas cap light stays on the whole time until I press the reset button and was not showing up until the first time I filled it up. Also the cap less option came with the later models in 08 I have read.

I might just try to disconnect he battery and clear it out but I don’t want to have to reset the clock/radio/seat memory ect........

I'd try leaving the light on for several miles/hours to see if it resets itself. It could be that resetting it manually is bypassing the sensor's ability to determine the issue has been resolved. If that doesn't work, your power off idea may work.

Just to say, I have an 06 X and when I unplug the battery the radio/clock all stays with its presets.

Thanks guys Ill try both:thumbsup:

I left it on for a few days without hitting reset and it stayed on so I just ended up disconnecting the battery for a few mins and that got rid of it:thumbsup:
