Gas Mileage

For what it's worth.

I usually check my Gas mileage everytime I fill up.

after one wheel'n trip (my last where I got stuck BAD twice) I got 17.9. For some reason I checked my tire pressure and it was at 45-50   My last oil change must have filled them up to the max. So I lowered it back to 32 all around. I also took a close look at my tires to find the centers bald. I looked at them the other day and also noticed the pass side inside edge is bald. ARRGH!

As far as Gas mileage I've only seen 17 onces since then. I drive 20-30 miles to work 5 days a week (all highway) and Once a week drive 120 miles round trip. I set my cruise and usually go 65 (If I'm not late) and 72 (If I'm behind schedule)

I have synthetic oil, 3:73 LS, smaller stock tires.

What gives?!? I must have calculated something wrong on the wheel'n trip. I was a 2.5 - 3 hr drive to get there, but still!!!! Maybe my truck likes the dirt!!! Hee hee hee!!:D

Thanks Alec, I will talk to a friend I have in the tire
business and see what his recommendation is..

Where you buy your gas has something to do with the gas milage. If you buy gas in a ozone non-atainment area, usually a large metropolitian area, you are buying reformulated gasoline (RFG). Typically, gas milage is reduced by 10 to 15% when using a RFG. You can be sure you are buying RFG if the pumps have vapor recovery systems on the nozzle. FRG is also about $0.10 a gallon more than regular gas.

Just a thought about tire size

It is possible, when running aftermarket tires not of original size, that the speedo/odo won't be calculated correctly right? Is it possible to go the the dealer and have them use the NGS tool to change tire diameter?

I get about 17 mpg mix city and highway driving. In the city, I only get around 12 mpg and the highest I can get on the highway is 21 and it only happened twice. I think I'll get a lower number for this tank b/c of my new mod with the throttle cable. :D Thanks guys!!!

Well I havent owned my truck long enough to give a dead-on MPG rating. However I will tell you that I drove from Philly, to Woodbridge, VA(South of DC) on half-a-tank. Thats about 200miles. Im guessing that I would have gotten another 100-150 miles out of the tank. Not too shabby.

Don't trust the gas gauge. If there is one thing i hate about fords its that it goes from full to half really slow, then speeds up dramatically. i am reading 160 on this tank and half left, but i know the only way i can get another 150 is if it is all highway and i will be running on fumers at trip end. the most i have ever gotten on a tank (in either of our exs) was 305 and that was 70mph the entire way.
