Gas pedel going to the floor

Hello everyone I own a 2008 stock ford explorer I have a couple of questions, 2 weeks ago I was driving my truck and I had pressed on my brake to slow down and when I went back to press on the gas pedal it went straight to the floor my steering wheel locked and my truck shut down. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what this could be it will no longer start after this day and my pedal still goes straight to the floor? Please any information will help and I appreciate: it. Thank you.

so basically you got stuck on the road? ive never heard this happen to our trucks before. interested to see what the tech heads have to say about this one.

yes I was stuck in middle of the road actually and had to push the truck to the side thank god I was not on the highway, not to mention I had to wait 4 hours for a tow truck to even arrive! I have had 2 people look at it and they have both said " It could be the fuel pump" but, neither are 100% sure. I have never heard of the fuel pump effecting the gas pedal I have also been told to replace my fuel filter. I am confused with all the "it could be" answers thank you for your quick response I appreciate it.

Sounds more like a stalling issue when it happened. Are you able to pull any codes?

I would also recommend checking your fuses.

Lastly, check your Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch (located near glove box on the outside passenger kick panel) before replacing any parts.

Yes, the code that is coming up is an o2 sensor, could that really be the problem? I have tried to reset the IFS but had no luck. I will check all the fuses today and I am also trying to replace the o2 senors to see if I have any luck. Thank you for your help!

A faulty O2 sensor would cause rough idling, hard starting and stalling, but it should start. Failing to start is usually attributed to a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor and not an O2 sensor.

Could also be a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay. I had two fuel pumps in my Cheap Jerokee fail without any codes or warning.

Last, but probable cause if the above are good, is the Ignition Coil Pack.

What do you mean that the gas pedal goes straight to the floor?
There isn't the usual resistance like the pedal is dead, no spring feeling?
If that is the case I believe you have a bad accelerator pedal which has an integrated sensor.
