I filled up for $1.52 per gallon at about 1:15 yesterday afternoon.
Here in Cleveland, some rat *******s had marked up to $4.00 per gallon last night. The city shut them down for price gouging.
If I see a station whose price clearly reflects gouging, I'll make sure that I never buy gas there again, and tell everyone I know as well. Anybody who pulls that crap should be driven out of business!!!
Jumped $.20 here yesterday (Peoria, IL) to a $1.99. Some stations dropped backby nightfall. Good things I'm on campus now. 60 miles on truck in 2.5 weeks as opposed to about 1500 in 2 weeks before college. At least thats one less expense.
There is no economical reason for gas to go up. No infastructure (at least on the ground) had been screwed up to stop gas. No Oil refineries have been hit. Oil prices closed pretty close to normal. It's just greedy individuals who want to make a quick buck on anything. Price gouging in time of crisis only creates more crisis. It feeds off itself. Most states have already said that any station gouging will be dealt with, by closing or fining. KY said they would sue any gas station caught gouging. There were probably some shortages yesterday just becasue everyone panicked (yes, including me) and went out and bought gas.
If you think about it we(US) have been pretty lucky so far. Compared to most other countries we have had very few large terrorist acts. It's suprising it took this long. Having as many enemies as the US was bound to result in something eventually.
NOTE: I in no way support what has happened. This is just a observation on my part. I hope we catch and punish whoever is responsable as much as any other american at this point.
it seems that some gas stations did go up but had to go back down or face fines... i read one place was even offering refunds on the difference they charged
gas actually went down 2 cents a gallon here in Colorado, I filled up yesterday at noon because I was getting empty, but I wouldn't have filled up if I weren't. I wasn't worried.
Gas here has stayed the same. As a result of the rush for gas lastnight most of the stations were sold out of regular unleaded. They were then selling the premium at the regular unleaded prices.
