Seems to be a real issue with these trucks.

Anyhow, symptoms are as follows:

Intermittently over the last month the truck would turn over but fail to start. after letting it sit for a bit, it would fire right up and run/drive like normal. The frequency of this occurring has become more and more frequent up until the other day when it did this and it hasn't started since.

KOEO: Check Gauges light comes on, upon cranking light goes off (ruling out Crank Angle Sensor). Fuel pump primes (can hear it when turning key to "on" position ruling out fuel pump). Removed plug, grounded it, turned key over and gets good spark (rules out coil pack). Engine turns over with no discernible changes from when it normally starts, however engine doesn't fire and run. Just continuously turns over.

What I've done:

Replaced the idle air control module (it was the AA varient, $170 at Napa! OMG!!), as it was surging at idle, problem continues. Brand new battery approx 1 month ago.

I can't figure out if there is a cam angle sensor or not on this engine (searching the forums returns a lot of different results, including a part that isn't manufactured anymore and is a common culprit).

I'd like to test the injectors to see if they are firing (as the plug I pulled out seemed pretty dry), but I can't find a how-to on this forum on how to do it.

There is no "anti-theft" on this truck either, as far as I can tell. There is no light on the dash designating any type of anti-theft features.

Help or direction, please!

i supose to test the injectors you could pull a plug and then see if there is any fuel spraying around, kind of like a compression test, without the tester. just make sure all the other plugs arent conected whe you do it.

Measure the fuel pressure at the rail. The fuel pump has two speeds and it goes out slow on those sometimes.

Right. The one plug I pulled was dry, I was hoping for a way to actually tell if the injector is firing, or if it was getting a signal.

Haven't checked fuel pressure at the rail, as I don't have a way to measure it. But, I did disconnect the fuel rail and turned the motor over and fuel went everywhere.

sorry i worded that wrong, i mean with the plug out, crank the engine, so you can see in the cylinder, and you will see fuel sprayin
Might be a bit difficult to see, but I'll sure give it a shot. Thanks!

Pull a few plugs.... IF they are dry and from your previous testing (with "spraying" at the fuel rail), it would be you either have a regulator issue OR an injector issue. check for voltage at your injectors. IF they are wet, then you have lost your timing.

Great. Can anyone give me a quick "how-to" on checking voltage at the injectors? Where do I have to probe? Do I have to remove an injector to test it?

Thankie.

They make a tool that you can use to check injector pulse.

That might come in handy to determine if you have a bad injector.

You can also test to see how much voltage you're getting to the injectors with a voltmeter. I believe on a warmed up vehicle it should be roughly around 6 volts. (Don't quote me on that) :p:

Try spraying some ether/starting fulid into the the intake. If it fires, then the problem is fuel delivery related.
