1999 Explorer 4.0 with 392,650 miles that I bought new. Original engine with no work on it. Two transfer cases and 1 transmission since new. Problem that has just developed.
Usually the engine starts within a consistent second or so of cranking. Now, if it doesn't fire and start in this normal time, it will continue to turn over but never fire. I can continue to keep the key turned and the engine will turn over.
If I leave it for, well, its been anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes, and come back to it, turn the key to start, and off I go. (usually!) It's a little rough at first, and has been for several months, but then evens out to a smooth running engine. I don't know if the length of time has anything to do with it.
Suggestions? Appreciate all your expertise.
Thanks. J
