How do i figure out my gear ratio?

Look at the sticker on your drivers door under axle code. Then look it up under Explorer Specification on this site.

If you think you have something other than stock just jack up your rear end, rotate one of the tires a full revolution and count how many times your shaft turns and you have your ratio.

Another way is the string method.

Hold a long-ish piece of string along the Side of the driveshaft and tape around the shaft a few times to make sure it'll stay. Then mark (or remember) a spot on the tire at the very bottom, drive forward one tire turn, and count how many times the string wraps around the driveshaft.

This helps eliminate any problems with trying to turn a limited slip rear end, or possibly throwing off your counting in any way. In theory open diffs need both tires turned together.. but I never verified that.

Oh - if the string wraps the wrong way it might give an odd "reading" ... no biggie.. just drive in reverse one tire-turn to reset everything, then go on backward one more tire turn and count again. You want the tail of the string to drop from the same side of the driveshaft that you taped it to originally.

It sounds harder than it really is, I promise. lol
