gear swap help wanted

I am running 31 inch tires, and today I looked up my axle code 41 to find that I'm running 3.27 gears.

I just saw these 3.73 gears on ebay; does anyone know if these will work?

The ad says they will but you might want to e-mail the seller and ask for the Ford Racing part number. Then you'll be able to know for sure. Anyone named "CorvetteEddie" may not be real knowledgeable about Fords..........

Just emailed him.....btw CorvetteEddie is the high bidder, not the seller. My mechanic just quoted me $275 for the swap, does that sound reasonable?

Not that I haven't considered it, but I'm not thinking of putting anything bigger than 31s on it......plus these 3.73s are pretty cheap. Is it really going to make that big of a difference with 4.10s?

Not a huge differance but a diff nevertheless, granted the gears are cheap.
But but buying a set of used gears on ebay may not be the best thing to do IMO

I also found a new set of 3.73s for $52, but that one ends in 3 hours. So if these 4.10s aren't the way to go I need to know fast to get the 3.73s.

Just would not buy a set of used (as is) gears on ebay, is to many possible downsides to used gears and bearings IMO

Thanks a bunch for the advice. I think I'm going to go with the 4.10s, but I'm going to buy a rebuild kit at the same time so all of the bearings, etc. will be new. As long as the gears aren't worn I should be fine. Since I have 65k miles on mine, I don't think the 4.10s have more than that.

The guy who is selling the 4.10s says he also has the posi unit. I'm thinking of getting that as well; what I'm not sure of is if it will fit into my existing case. Are they all the same or is the case different for an open diff?
