I have always wondered if this would be a plausible way to gear down your final drive ratio. The Transfer case is 1:1 in almost all vehicles. Instead of spending thousands and all the time to change your diff gears from sat 3.55s to 4.10's for arguments sake why couldn't you just gear down the Tcase to say 1:.88 for example?

Seems like that would be alot cheaper and easier than doing the diffs as long as there is clearance in the case for the different sized gears. Of course your low range would still be higher unless you geared it down as well but for most peoples uses that wouldn't matter I feel.

What say you?

would doing this help take the stress off the diffs and trans when putting bigger tires and lifting the truck? and would this help with gas milage?

Yes. It would have the same effect as rehearing the differentials.
