Gears?

How hard is it to put gears in? What are the procedures? thanks

I have never put gears in, but I do know that it is very labor intensive and very exact. If you don't do it right, you can ruin them pretty fast. If you have never done it before, then I would suggest that you have a trained person to it instead. Take it the a gear shop, and be sure that they have done a Ford 8.8 before.
Many gear shops that cater to the Mustang crowd will be able to help you out.

A philosophy I (and others here) have about installing gears is: "if you have to ask how to do it, you probably shouldn't be doing it." Installing gears properly is something you learn buy watching and working with others that are experienced doing them. It is VERY precise work and requires some specialty tools.

It is super easy- IF you have done it before, have a shop press, dial indicators, inch/lb torque wrench, foot/lb torque wrench, various bearing pullers, depth indicators AND .....patience.

I can do my own gears - Ive done a few, before I did I watched anyone and everyone doing gears that I could.
If you have a decent amount of mechanical ability, plenty of time and the ability to invest in 3-400 or more worth of tools then go for it. If you are in a hurry and just trying to save some cash- having somone do it for you will be less costly in terms of time and money, plus you will have someone to hold accountable when the install goes bad.
