2002 Limited V8 AWD loaded owned since new, no modifications (at all).

Two times in the last week the car alarm has gone off by itself for no apparent reason. Of course, one time was at 1:30 a.m.

A couple of years ago had the door ajar warning lights that would not clear in wet weather, but that has gone away and not reappeared after a liberal dousing with WD40.

I have no idea where to even begin on this one. Did a search, came up with nothing.

Anybody have any ideas where to begin?

Common issue with Taurus' Mark 8's and now it look like you "sploderd00ds" have the same goofy door switch as the rest of the fords.

Spray liberal amounts of WD 40 into the latch area.
Work the latch open and closed via a screwdriver and the door handle
Rinse, lather, repeat.

Might take a day or two for it to "soak in" and free up the little pin that sits into a tiny little hole to indicate the door is latched.

Sometimes you have to pull the door panel on the mark 8's to properly get AT the switch, sometimes a blast of WD-40 will do the trick

hope this helps

IF just spraying it doesnt help... then you might have to actually get "AT" the switch.
it's got a very very small pin that goes into a small hole.
That hole gets crud it in and sometimes WD doesnt fix it.

Thanks for the comments.

I guess there is no way to tell which of the several switches is the culprit, is there?

Unfortunately no.. well on the mark 8 the message center will tell you which of the TWO doors aren't closed, I dont know about your ride tho...sorry.

Every bit of info helps, thanks.

I wonder if you unplugged one of the switches if it'd disable it or if it would make it think the door was ajar?

just thinking from the far side.

it's a fairly simple switch system, if you could determine which wires in the door harness went to the switch you could jumper that particular door and see if the issue still exists.
you might wind up taking both.. or all 4 doors panels off.. depending on the vehicle...but I think you could narrow it down.

just swallowing coffee and typing as I think... so forgive my scatter brained idea..
(lol)

No, I like the way you think. Why replace/repair/tear into all if it can be narrowed down. Looks like time to break out some electrical prints. I prefer troubleshooting in front of the wide screen with a cold beverage to taking apart stuff at random.
