95 Explorer Sport
Hello everyone. I have a 1995 Explorer 2 door Sport, 4L V6, loaded truck. A while back I was having intermittent problems. First last winter the all wheel drive quit working. Then the heater hot/cold control quit, and the interior lights would sometimes stay on and you would have to shut the truck off and restart it. So I took it to the dealer and they told me it is the GEM module. They said to look for a used one to save money, so a friend of mine located 3 for me. They are from 95 models also, but 4 doors. They also have different part numbers. The dealer says they will not work, they have to be out of a two door. Is this correct? Luckily I haven't had any of the issues since early last summer. Dealer also said sometimes they act up if they get some moisture in them, say from a windshield leak?
So I'm just wondering, if I ever have these issues again, is it worth trying them, or could I screw something up?

I am not a fan of used electronic parts. If it were me, I would get a new GEM.

Good luck ....

Yes, you need to use a GEM that was programmed for a 2-door, same engine, same transmission, gear ratio, etc.

O.k. Thanks for the info. Had some issues in the past with my dealer so just wanted to double check. Dealer wants just over $500.00 and I got those for free, so it was worth a try. I imagine all the 95 two doors would have the same part numbers on them?

You're thinking of the PCM. The GEM only differs between 2-door and 4-door, and possibly between 4WD and 2WD/AWD.
