'95 XLT
Hey everyone, I'm kinda new to the board and to cars in general. I have a 1995 XLT with almost 180k miles. It runs great (besides a bit slow, but that's beside the point,:D) and I want to keep it that way for another few years until I can afford a new car. When the weather gets decent, what kind of "general maintinence" things can I do to keep it running well? I'm guessing it's stuff like change the fluids, keep everything clean and other things. I've got the Hayes service manual and I'm fairly competant with mechanical stuff like cars and computers. Very sorry for rambling. Thanks in advance:)

Welcome Ktom. You have already said it; change the fluids. Engine oil and filter first, then the transmission fluid and filter. Also the power steering fluid, and diff oil.

After that, look at the serpentine belt. Change it if it has any cracks. Then check the brakes. The front pads are easy to change, and they wear out pretty quickly on X's. Then just keep it in good repair and the engine oil changed regularly. Good luck with it.

Thanks a bunch. I just changed the oil about 2 gas tanks ago, topped off the power steering fluid then too and I dont drive it very hard. When i get a chance (good weather), I'll change the tranny and diff fluid. Thanks a bunch.
