I'd personally try to talk them down, but that thing appears to be in very, very good shape. 37,000 miles is pretty low too....

If it checks out as clean as it looks in the pictures...I'd say that is a great deal for a Limited. I love that color and that is VERY low miles for a 2000. Just be careful buying from those small big city corner lot dealers.

I would try to talk them down to 10-5. There is a mounty at the lot where I bought mine, (still there and I bought mine in Nov.) for 9,999 and it is a Montery (all the goodies; 5.0, AWD, smart console, digital heat, leather, controls in the steering wheel) and it had 78k on it. So, more stuff but, more miles. You can talk them down :)

Edit: I forgot to mention, it was an 00 also.

I was thinking 10-5 too. But damn that is one clen truck.

You can look at cars.com and see what similar trucks are going for. Also, make them give you a carfax report on it. Look for the gotchas like collision, odometer issues, and whether it's ever been leased or auctioned.

Be objective about a carfax report. They can tell you if a vehicle has been in a reported accident, but, if a car has been in an unreported accident (like a Deer Strike or an accidnet on private property where no report was filed) it won't show up on a carfax. Carfax is a good tool but not always 100% accurate.

well the 4wd in the 6's isnt really a manual change...but i know what you are talking about. You can put in a B1354 manual T-case because the awd system is completly mechanical then you will have true 4wd. I belive that section525 did this on his.

Looks like they sold the one you were lookin at. The link says that the car is no longer for sale. :(

If your coming up to Columbus, this is the one I talked about earlier

2000 Mountaineer

The salesman was really cool too. It is a little mom and pop place but the mom and pop are retired, the son is the manager/salesman/everything.

While I don't know what a good or bad deal is on these trucks, I feel I got an alright deal on my first Explorer purchase this week.

I picked up a 98 Eddie Bauer edition with AWD/Towing package and the 5.0 V8 with 120k on it for $4995. I've only put about 300 miles on it, but so far everything seems to be pretty much alright. The driver window is a bit slow going down at first and the brakes feel a bit spongy but it's otherwise it good shape.

Yeah, you got a pretty good deal, almost the same vehicle as mine except for the grill ;) with 25k more miles for 1k less than I paid. Got any plans for it?

If you're asking about mine, I'm planning to mod it for maximum mpg while keeping it as smooth and quiet as possible. So far I think I'll be adding an intake/maf as well as some sort of chip. I'm a bit confused about the chip as It seems the port that it connects to is typically disabled. More research in my future on that one.

Thanks for the advice. I've been big on gas mileage for a while though I've been mod'ing Saturns up to this point. Finally went for the truck I've wanted for a while though and ready to take on the challenge. I had a vacuum based water injection system setup on one of my saturns and will be considering the same for the 5.0 Explorer. Anyone know some of the better mpg reported for others with a 5.0? Anyone else tried h20 injection?
Also.. my apologies to the original poster, I didn't mean to hi-jack this thread. :(

well you have to understyand you are driving a 5000 pound block that has the aero dymaics of a brick. Some mpg mods are intake exaust, chip, and then the best of them all your right pedal.
