Went to the audio store today just to look around.. I chatted with one of the salesman and he told me he had a couple w3s sitting at home that he'd sell for $250 (still in sealed retail box).

I already have two mtx 6000s, but I hear nothing but good things from JL. So basically I was wondering how much difference I'd notice, if any, on SQ or SPL. I think they're both in direct competition with eachother (these two series), but the JLs cost about $50 more each at the shop. So I figure that has to say something.

What do you guys say?

if they're W3V2's, these things are amazing! My buddy has a single 10W3V2 in a beautiful custom box and that thing sounds amazing in his 2003 grand am. The 10W3s are excellent subs too, I used to have a pair a while back and they put out excellent sound for the small amount of power you need to provide for them.

Back when I bought my 10W3s (2 of'em) I also listened to an MTX box w/3 10s (I believe they were 6000s) and the JLs sounded so much better SQwise. Just my ear and opinion though! I'd buy JL over MTX every day.

Thats what I paid for my 12W3V2s. I have two in a custom box and I love em. Im not much of audiophile or anything, but Ive never had a bad comment on them.

I"m getting a 12W3v2 here probably next month and my local stereo shop quoted me $225 for one brand new. Which is surprising because they usually are much higher priced than anyone else.

the only thing i can tell you , is you should go with jlw0'2 in a sealed box, thay are cheaper and sound amazing, with loades of bump // i have 3 in my truck, powered by a planet audio 300 // and it hits over 145 db's

if you want to save yourself money, go with a brand thats know for only great audio equitment,

adireaudio.com

look at the shiva, it dosent look like much but they are ****ing loud! they are par with the jl w3's

Thanks for the suggestions.

What's the difference between the w3v2 and just the w3? voice coils?

I'm thinking one of the main draws for buying a popular brand is I know there's going to be some quality. Not only in sound, but in design and stoutness.

Hardly anyone babies their subs, and I'm no different. I'd be more afraid to spend $500 on alot of cheap stuff than $500 on 2 or 3 great things that I know will last.

On another note, I had the pleasure of listening to a 15" w7 today. That thing is a beast! I'd be scared to put it in my car... Maybe in like a movie theater or something. That thing tossed around gallons of air and was still eager for more power. Insane.

Last I checked they didn't make a 15W7, the biggest they made was 13W7 because it had more surface area than most 15's from what I gathered back in the day. Unless I'm wrong!

BTW, I would love to listen to one of those things, no matter what size!!!

Hmm, might have been w6.

Either way, humongous output.

i posted some pics of my box with the jlw0's, if you wanna see
