13mpg with a 2002 V6 XLT??? Is that a SOHC or OHV?

SOHC i believe. And yes , 13mpg is what i got last tankfull. But it is low mileage and maybe driving style matters a lot. I will keep checking it when possible.

That is probably the stock hitch. So does it say 3.73's on the window sticker? If you get the chance to check it, please report back.

Basically I don't think Ford sells an Explorer XLT 4x4 without the towing package. Seems every 4x4 XLT in my area has the tow package but some of the 4x2 XLT's don't. Does anyone else agree with this? I found out by using Ford's website to search the dealers.

Actually 2002 Explorer 4x4's seem pretty rare around here. Almost all are 4x2's. In fact on a major lot, the one we got was the only one that was a 4x4 Explorer 2002. Villa Ford in Orange, CA. And this was an Ad vehicle that had the pre 01/28/2002 changes and was made in December but didn't sell till now. Maybe because it was a 4x4? Most people around here will not spend the extra money i believe. Has the high back buckets in front, no fog lights and the rear view mirror is manual. 01/28/2002 the XLT got fog lights, low back buckets with head rests and the automatic rear view mirror(forget what thats called...monochromatic?).
So anyway they all have a tow package but there is a tow package upgrade to class 3/4. The hitch hole in back is bigger. Since all i have seen on the lots around here is 4x2 except for ours i couldn't say.
