Getting an Explorer, Want some recommendations

Hi All,
I am thinking about purchasing an Explorer and I wanted some recommendations. I currently drive a 4.6V8 F150 2wd. I want a 4wd Explorer and I'm not sure whether to V8 or V6. I also have the option of going anywhere from 08 back to 04 and didn't know which generation was better. I like the bodies of the 03-05 more I think, but would like to hear your comments. Also should I buy fleet maintained or should I go to a used/new vehicle lot? Any suggestions/thoughts you can provide would be most appreciated.

By no means am i trying to undermind you BrooklynBay but i switched from a 4.6l f150 to my now '98 sport explorer and what a difference. The f150 had 3.55 gears and just felt like a dog compared to my 2 door sport with 4.10 gears and a v6. Granted though i believe the new explorers are a heavier then the 2 gen explorers.The best would be to go out and test drive a v6 and v8 explorer and see which one you like better. I always perfer buying from a private seller since they seem to offer better deals and and are more knowlegdible on the history of the vehicle.
