Getting vibration like bad u joints

Umm, what are you talking about?? Both u joints were replaced. The piece that cracked is the $65 flange.
You stated earlier that s/he replaced the front shaft CV joint but not the U joint. That's a hack. Won't be long before you'll be tying up the truck for another day in his/her shop, paying the labor to re-do all the steps s/he did for the CV joints, to replace that last piece of the puzzle.

Not necessarily. The front U-joint does not have much movement, and should have a much longer life span. I pulled the cups off mine and the needles were fine. Put in some new grease and it should last the life of the vehicle.

It's $4.67 for the part at O'Reilly's. So what did the OP save? But whatever. His mechanic probably needs the work.

There's a select group that will keep doing what they do regardless, and that's how I make my living. I could use a break, though, which is why I comment on my experiences on these boards.

I would never install a 4 dollar U-joint in any vehicle I own. You will be doing the job again within a year. Buy quality parts only!

Dana branded joint is $12...it's the most expensive one I found. But I think I made my point, which is, parts are cheap labor is not. whether one agrees or not is up to personal preference.

Yes, it is. I can change a u-joint in 15 mins. No need to even remove the drive shaft if you have the right tool

Good for you. I hadn't realized you hijacked the thread. My comments were directed to the threads' OP, who kept referring to his "mechanic". I doubt his "mechanic" works for free.

The front u joint was looked at and didn't need replacement. Should I have replaced it? Probably, but given the amount of money I've spent on this truck in the past 60 days, the additional $60 that would have cost me went towards one of the 2 new front hub assemblies I needed to replace.

Also, not sure what the front driveshaft has to do with the rear driveshaft with all new joints...

That was my point: As the OP is paying his mechanic for the work, no point in paying to replace parts that aren't worn out. That can get very expensive over time.

Like the $275 I spent to replace the front shaft CV Joint when it didnt need it?
