Girlfriend will get me subs for anniversary!

if you get one 1205X or 1505X, then the Audiobahn A275HCX will provide plenty of power @ 1 OHM mono.

if you get the 1208X or 1508X, then get the Audiobahn A1500HCX. you can run one of those subs @ 2 ohms mono and it'll hit extremely hard. and if you ever decide to get another sub, you can wire them in paralell @ 1 OHM mono and get twice the power.

Using boxplot and another computer program for computing volumes of boxes, I keep getting about .77ft^3 for some reason. I tried the 1205, 1208, and even the AWC10D 2000 model (using the specs off the AudioBahn web site Audiobahn web site)

They recommend a 2.4ft^3 ported box for the 1208, and you told me to get the 2.8 which you also used Leenjen. Can you think of a reason I am getting the wrong output?? There must be something I am missing...

Matt

the subwoofer can be used in a very small sealed enclosure, but it sounds much better in a large vented enclosure.

Amps

If you want some quality amps get Zapco. They make the best i've seen and heard!

If you want subs that sound clean and can pound, I'd really reccommend the a/d/s/ rs.2 series. I looked around and demo'd a ton of different subs before I bought mine. I think they are the cleanest, most musical subs out there (except for the Velodynes, but I don't think your g/f would want to shell out $900 per sub ;)), and they can really pound when needed.

peace

Mike

Subs

Velodyne doesn't make subwoofers for auto's anymore.

Boxes

Every manufactuer recommends either a Seal or Ported box. The main difference between the two is that sealed sounds more crisp, clear and is more for sound quality. Ported boxes are more for air movement or SPL.

Leenjen, where did you come up with your recommendation for the box volume size? Is it based on your personal tastes of how a sub should sound or is this the setup you thought I would like? It looks like the aw1208X is what we're going with, now its time to talk boxes baby!! whew hoo!!!!!!!!!

that's the way it used to be.
it all depends on how well the enclosure is made. there are plenty of ported enclosures that have sq that is just as good as sealed only they hit harder.

Audiobahn recommends a small enclosure for convenience. after going to a few competitions and seeing the larger enclosures (and hearing how well they performed), i decided to try it. the results were amazing. this cant be dont with every subwoofer (especially the cheaper brands). i helped tac0meat design his system (1205X in a large vented enclosure) and he was amazed. it hit harder than the 4 kenwood 12" subs that he had in there before.

the 1208X is a great subwoofer. if you put it in a large vented enclosure it will slam. dont go overboard and make a HUGE enclosure.

So there wasn't any type of calculation for you then? But from experience, you like how it performs in the 2.7ft^3 box, is that right?

Also I was wondering what your age was and what your musical preferences were in terms of setting up subs... I listen to more and more hip hop and rap lately (friends' influence I guess) and I'm 18.

Matt

i'm 22 years old. i listen to mostly rap/hip hop. and i've been doing car audio installs for about 6 years.

from my experience with that subwoofer, it sounds better and hits harder in the large vented enclosure. the type of music doesnt make too much of a difference. i hooked up my wife's parent's minivan with a single 1205X in a 2cuft ported enclosure and they loved it (they listen to mostly metallica and stuff like that).

Leenjen, the link to that box doesnt work anymore, do they still sell it? can you lead me to the one you were talking about?

Matt

My dad is stuck on the .77ft^3 optimum box volume result we are getting on the box programs. Have you had any experience with this sub in say a 1.5ft^3 box?

How is this going to sound different from the 2.83ft^3 box??

ALSO, I ordered the woofer today!!

What do I need to get from Ford (or anyone) in terms of bypassing the current sub and amp?

thanks

i used the 1205x in a 1.4cuft ported enclosure for and install in a firebird. it sounded really nice. it wasnt as loud as the larger enclosure, but it was much better then the recommended size. the bass seems a little flat in the .88cuft that i tried first.

you can order an amp bypass harness from crutchfield. i think it's about $13.
www.crutchfield.com
i dont think they have it listed on the website, but if you call they will send it out.

I received the amp bypass kit yesterday, and the sub is on its way. I went home this weekend and found my old Alpine V12 mrv-f303 and brought it back to college with me. So I all need now is to order the box!!

How is the 1ft^3 box gonna sound compared to the 2.83ft^3??? Which one to get....

Matt

sounds good. i'm not familiar with that amp, how much power does it put out?
i really think you'll like the sound of a larger enclosure better. why not compromise and build a 2 cuft enclosure?
