Well Glacier I think I have some good news for you and the rest of the guys at this forum. Ive been talking to two guys this morning on the problem weve been having with the 2-3 flare. The first guy I talked to was from High Tech transmissions. I had called to see if they had any EPCs in stock. And he asked what year and what kind of transmission it was, so I told him. And then he had asked if I had any VB work through ford within the last year. And I told him Yes. Well he said that ford came out with a new revised EPC in 04 that is not as delicate. He said that even with a moderate amount of shavings or debris that this new EPC shouldnt fail this quick. He also told me that one way we would know for sure if it was the EPC was that we would have something wrong with all shifts. It wouldnt just be a 2-3 flare it would a flare in all gears. So then I asked well what would cause that flare then? And he said well since the 2-3 shift involves the intermediate band holding the direct clutch drum that it has something to do with either the band, the servo, or its not adj correctly. So then I told him that I had checked the band and that it was good. So then he asked if I had installed the spring in the intermediate servo from the shift kit. And I said yes. And then he asked if I replaced the piston, and I told him no. He said theres your problem. He said when we replace that spring that the piston HAS to be replaced. Then we started talking some more and I was telling him about this forum and the problems we are having. He said that if we are only having the 2-3 flare and nothing else then we should flush the tranny FIRST, THEN replace the intermediate servo piston and that should fix it. And that we should only replace the EPC if we have a flare in all gears. Now he did say however that if you are doing VB work and the EPC hasnt been replaced within the last year to go ahead and replace it. That it will save some troubles later on. Now im not saying that he is 100% correct, but he sounded pretty confident and he said that they work with those transmissions alot. So im going to try it and if it works. If it does we might have found a new CHEAPER cure for this 2-3 flare.
