I'm working on smoothing out the rear of my 93 Sport to help it look a little cleaner and more like the newer Sports. I took off the horizontal trim that runs above and below the rear hatch glass, which connects (sort of) with the rear side glass. This looks a lot cleaner, especially after the holes are filled and the flat black is painted body color, but the side windows look slightly odd now since the trim just comes to an abrupt end at the top and bottom.

I spent an hour or so wandering the JY this morning looking for odds and ends, and noticed that on the 98 Sport (not sure on other years) the rear hatch doesn't have the horizontal trim, and the side glass has a different trim around the perimeter. Everything else appears the same, and I'm hoping its a direct swap for the glass from my 93, as the trim is in better shape anyway! Does anyone have any experience with this swap? They want $100 for each side of glass, and they've got several trucks with the glass intact if anyone else needs it or wants to do this if it works. I might be able to get it cheaper also if I buy several.

Don't you just need the black trim that runs up and down at the end of the glass? This gives the glass a finished look and it makes it blend well with the hatch. I know those can be found on 98-01 only.

You know.... that might be a good (and cheaper!!) idea. The trim around the window is a slightly different shape, but it might not be enough to be noticed. I'll be back by there on Friday, I'll have to pick up those trim pieces and see how they look. I'll keep everyone updated, and will try to get some pics up, I'm sure others probably despise the hatch pillars being flat black as much as I do.

Well, I stopped in at the JY yesterday and testfitted the trim from the 98 on a 1st gen sport. The shape of the trim is a little different and it just didn't match well enough for my liking. You would also have to drill two holes and make two slots in the hatch for the trim to fit, and I'm not going to do that unless I'm 100% happy with the look.

I looked at mine some more with after taking the horizontal trim off, and I think for now I'm going to leave it as is, after the paint is matched I don't really think you'll notice that it doesn't really have a finished end.
