hey all, im having a what i think is a problem with my airbag light and abs light. when its really cold out (20 or below) i start the truck and the abs and airbag light glow dimly and flicker. What i have discovered recently is that when my climate control heater fan is turned on they will go out immediatly. Im not sure if it could be connected to the heater control unit because when i have it on automatic i have to keep pressing the fan + button to get it to turn on the fan. the car could be up to temp and it will still not come on automatically until i keep pressing the fan button. sorry to be long winded, but if someone could give me some insight on this, it would be great
Matt

no codes at all for the airbag or abs which is wierd

Exrange, did you ever find the problem?

no, i never brought it to the dealer and all the searches ended up with nothing. doesnt do it at all this time of year, just when its really cold ( below 30 degrees)

My airbag light used to flicker (not flash) on cold mornings as well and the seats would not move until the temp got warmer. Turned out to be a poor ground connection under the center console.

My 03 does the exact same thing, and has done so since I bought it. It is only at 20 degrees or below, so I forget about it, until winter. Dealer tampered with some grounds when it was new, but clearly, they didn't figure it out. Difficult to diagnose, since it has to be cold out for it to happen.

I'm sure it is the same problem, but my symptoms expanded are the following:
1) Very cold mornings (only on cold start) - less than 20 degrees.
2) Air bag light dimly flickers. I think it is brighter when it is colder, but I can't remember for sure.
3) It continues to do this until it is warmed up, BUT... I think that it is more related to the automatic climate control kicking in, then the temperature of the car. Because...
4) When the automatic climate control fan finally starts running (after car is warm enough), the light goes out by itself.
5) Something not noted in previous posting... This also affects the AM radio reception very badly. While the airbag light is dimly flickering, my AM radio reception is horrid. but, as soon as the climate control fan kicks on, the air bag light goes out, and the AM radio reception clears up.
6) Once the climate control fan is running (car up to temp), everything stays fine.
7) I cannot remember, but I believe that if I leave the climate control in the OFF position at startup, none of this happens. But, I rarely do that in sub-20 deg weather... I'll check that tomorrow morning.

So, I'm sure that it is something to do with a control module, or wiring, or a ground, but have no idea where.

Everything you said (I haven't tried the radio when this happens) is true. It is fan dependant. If you turn the fan on full blast, the light is gone. If its off, the light is gone.
If you have it on auto, it stays on until "warm". Even if you turn the fan speed up (everything but high), it still is on until the fan actually turns on. The fan doesn't turn on right away and that is the only time the light is on......
