Explorer sport sohc 99
being a young dumbass i like to do stupid stuff with my truck because... well its a good ****ing time. anyways last night i decided to do a burnout for ***** and giggles i drive a 99 sport with the 4x4 auto and a 5 speed. i have the sohc engine. i use to do this alot with my friends and its always been fine but this time it made a huge bang and now in any gear it wont go anywhere. makes a thumping noise that progresses based on which gear i pick and rpm of the engine. i took a peak this morning at the clutch through that hole. no dust or what seems to be anything broken comming out. my driveshaft to the differential looks good and when i had it in gear i let it idle and the rear drive shaft wiggles so it cant be the differential. my guess that i broke my transfer case or my transmission output shaft? im gunna drain the oil in both tonight see what i come across. metal shavings should give me a good indication of whats broken right? thanks guys

okay so i ripped my truck apart and i laughed because my transmission and tcase are busted. output shaft of the transmission snapped on an angle inside the tcase. its jammed up in there and the bearing is shot. this is just for future reference should this happen to anyone like me. if your truck is making a thump noise your tail shaft in the transmission might be snapped

Of all the cars to do a burnout in....

The exuberance of youth is, at times, tempered with harsh lessons. Look at it this way... at least you now will get to learn how to pull a trans and xfer case and rebuild/replace them! Hows the motor? Anything bent?

i actually just put that tranny in last summer hahaha. engines fine i was going to replace the tranny annyways because it was grinding in 3rd and 5th. it had a slow leak from the input shaft. probably over heated the output shaft from lack of lubrication and changed the tensile strength. it just sucks that it took out the tcase with it. ive learned my lesson. no more burnouts at least for a little while till i get a new dd. shes all fixed up now
