Ok I am just about to go to college and I am going to sell my Explorer. I would keep it but here in the UK if your explorer goes wrong then it's VERY hard to fix cause there is no one that understands the technology!! its just been in the shop for 6 weeks having a new tranny!!!! i cant deal with that.
I really dont want to sell it cause its such a great car and i love it! but it has to be done.

Ok so i am looking at getting another car and i am thinking of a Jeep wrangler. They sold a lot of those here and i am sure after sales support would be good. What do you guys thing of them ..... how much of a change would it be from my 98 4.0 SOCH?
the jeep would be a 4.0 Automatic..

Im sorry to say jeep in here but i hope you understand why i have to sell the X

thanks,

Tom

So you're heading off to college, then why would you want to buy a Jeep Wrangler just like every other young college student? I swear, I see more of those on campus than any other vehicle. You need to consider such things as ride quality, noise levels and the ability to cram your friends and your gear in for a weekend away from school. Wranglers just don't offer that much when it comes to practicality or luxury. I moved myself into and out of my dorm room last year with my explorer and I still had room for a friend to come along for the ride...

Right! I would love to keep my explorer!!! its a great truck! but here in the UK if it goes wrong you have had it! even the ford dealerships shy away from them because they just dont understand them, my ford dealership had to make a phone call to find out if it was 4X4 or 2WD! i mean whats up with that?

Whoa!
Even my girlfriend could figure that one out.
I agree with VBVA though... The wrangler won't offer much room for hauling dorm stuff... What are you looking for in the new vehicle? 4x4, service/support, cargo hauling?

Im looking for something that the Brits are going to understand how to repair if it ever goes wrong. Im looking for something that is powerfull and that will be able to carry dorm junk....computers...beds... you know the stuff....
i has to be automatic..

Jeep huh?! Well you got to do what you got to do... only you know what's best for you... good luck, man.

I really should be shot for this, especially on a Ford Explorer website, but have you considered a grand cherokee:eek: . Admittantly, they have more room than a wrangler and could potentially fit more people. I am not a big jeep fan but since those vehicles are better supported where you live, that might be an appealing and viable option.
Personally, I'd keep the X and impress the girls! Seriously, at the University of Nevada, Reno the Explorer is more popular than the wranglers!
DO it for the chicks! :D

ummmmmmmmmmm.... you put me off the wrangler.. .... my x is on 127,000 miles how much more life does she have left?

Jeep Cherokee V8......

It's too bad they don't know how to work on X's over there. I don't see how the "technology" wouold be any different than an Jeep. It just sounds like your mechanic is lazy, don't want to work on it, or is just a dumbass. A 4x4 is a 4x4, it's not that hard, the front diff usually gives it away.

You can always learn to work on it yourself. It's not that hard, and you have all of us for support.

yeah i mean they have tons of range rover 4.6's here and they are packed full of tech stuff.... and they are fine with those.... i just think they dont see that many explorers here so they dont really bother to learn.... maybe i will just keep it.... :-) i love it. :-)

Rovers aren't bad (Land and Range) and the Brits are specialists when working on them. You could haul all your junk in one those with room to spare and I bet they are cheaper in the UK than they are over here too...

You think X's brake down a lot? Try a Range Rover. Ha!

My Mother had a Range Rover, it was a total piece of crap. She got rid of it because it was in the shop 12 times within 15K miles. A good friend of mine has a Land Rover Disco, he loves it for off road but the upkeep is a major PITA. There is always something going wrong with it, and parts are expensive. Parts are probably cheaper in the UK though.
