I was wondering since buying the sub+box combos from jl are so expensive, where could I just get a good box? I can get a 13w1v2 pretty cheap, but where should I go, for just a box... these are the only ones I can find on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/CAR-AUDIO-JL-W1...ryZ50568QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
but for $120 and that sellers feedback, I was wondering what are my other options? I don't really want to build one myself, would prefer to buy one pre-made. Doesn't really matter if it is ported or sealed.

Do not buy a prefab enclosure...Usually they are too small and tuned high.

If you have a some tools you can build your own enclosure easily...Lowe's even cuts the MDF for you.

It will sound ten times better than a prefab crap.

Ditto the person who said build your own. Much better than the pre-fab ones. In regards to the price of the JL boxes from them....They are rock solid and built like a freakin tank. If you don't have tools and maybe have never built a box....maybe uncomfortable about doing so.....They are expensive but you will get exceptional performance out of theirs......

Agree with them, build your own or go to a shop and have them build one for the sub. Don't buy prefab, almsot never the right amount of air space nor the right size mounting hole(all companies make them a bit different).

cool thanks guys, now another question: About how many decibels do you think a single 13w1 would push out, or a single 13w3? I can't decide between the two, I want something that when playing at a normal/loud volume level will be around 90db (which is what I understand to be where hearing damage occurs). The 13w1 is 350w rms and the 13w3 is 600w rms. Thanks again.

You won't know until you get the system all set up. It depends on placement, sub box design, amp, wiring, tuning, individual frequencies, etc. You can't just pick out a sub and know how many DB's you'll be getting. You can search around and see what people have gotten with there setups in similiar vehicles and it may give you an idea on what you will be getting. But nothing definite.

The best way to estimate is know the boxes frequency capabilities and things of that nature and determine from there... Its all about the box!

between 100-150db. Basically there is no real way of guessing spl. It's hard to calculate how the waveforms will interact in the vehicle and how much pressure is on a single point where the mic will be.
