I have a '93 XLT and I am looking for some nicer door speakers. The ones I had when I first got it were terrible. But we actually had a 91 "parts" Explorer that I tore the speakers out and noticed to get quite a bit better bass and not as much distortion with. But I'm still not happy so I need to find some new 6x8's. I have a Rockford Fosgate RFX9000 MP3 source unit.

I don't intend to get subs or an amp or anything. I just want to be able to enjoy my music with a deep clean sound. So any suggestions will be appreciated.

from my experience, the best all-around speakers are stock. i have replaced the speakers in several cars with aftermarket and the sound is much better, but there is a lack of bass, so i always end up adding subs. since you have an ex, i would add some nice pioneer speakersd and gert that mtx hideaway 10" sub that mounts in the rear passanger cargo area...that way, you dont give up any wpace but you get premium sound at the same time.

if thats not an option, i hear great things about polk dx-series speakers, but i have always been a pioneer or infinity man (both are great for highs, but not so for low).

another thing i do is spend alot of time messing with the adjustments on my radio...getting the eq just right is essential and it will change for different types of music.

I put cerwin vega 3-ways in the front. Price= 120$
Pioneer 2-ways in the rear price=110$

They sound great deliver deep enough bass for me so im happy!

never owned cerwin speakers...only their subs, but it makes sence. i have pioneer 2-ways all around because i knew i would have a sub and the way i have it tuned, i love it. i get a ton of mids and highs and have some great bass with a single 12" pioneer sub. how you tune your deck has alot to do with it though.i run 0 bass to my speakers and very little to my sub, but then i have the sub turned up and my sound curve is set up for alot of trebbile. if i had infinitys, i could make ears bleed and still give you a headache with the bass...and my stsyem really isnt that powerful...its just tuned.

i think i'm going to go with kenwood for door speakers, i have a 94 eddie bauer, what size speakers would i need to get for the doors?

5x7s or 6x8s all around...essentially same size, but i would go 6x8s. i have heard of people putting 6 1/2" rround speakers in but i wouldnt try it.

honestly, my ex has pioneer 6x8s and a pioneer deack and a pioneer 12" sub on an amp...our 91 eb has a kenwood deck with an alpine changer..everything else is tock...wanna know why?

because it sounds good. my truck sounded great. i already had 2 12s when i bought it so i threw them in. the only reason i replaced the speakers was because i blew a tweeter and got the new speakers on clearance with a gift card. yeah, mine sounds better than our stocker but tat one still sounds great. in my contour which had essentially the same speakers, i went to aftermarket when i added a sub but wheni removed the sub, i went back to stock.

like i keep saying, if it isnt broke (and you arent going to add a sub), then dont replace it.

if you must tinker though, erwin and polk are the way to go. i am partial to pioneer and infinity but they offer crappy bass. you could always try mb or kicker components, i hear they sound good and the door lock/window switch panel is a good spot for the tweets.

i see what you are saying but with my system the stock door speakers sound like crap. are the front door speakers the same size as the back door?

Yes front and back are exactly same size...

What is a good website for a good price on speakers? The only one I found that is low priced is etronics.com.

what brand are you looking for?

I have 4 Memphis speakers with aimable tweeters that I really like. The shop I bought them from actually designed this particular tweeter setup. They do SQ comps and it seems like they win everything. These are NOT good for bass though.

Heres the link:
http://www.audiounlimited.com

Theyve built 16 IASCA championship systems, more than any other single shop in the country

where can i get some of those

i think i have just decided to go with mtx, i don't know why, but i think i just want to

ive got Boston Acoustics and am very very happy with them (about $120/pair)
good bass and especially SQ

i have a pair of boston 5 1/2s that were going to go into my blazer (before my girlfriend drove it into a cement wall) that i was hoping would fit into my x. they don't. that sucks.

i would but i'm just going to get new 6x8s. i think i'm going to put the bostons in my neighbor's trans am. it's kind of my new project i've been working on for soundproofing and better wiring. his system sucks right now but with my help, well i'll just get pictures some time

you want 5.25 just give me a email at wils0559@umn.edu an i'll make you the brackets. same for 6.5

i have 6.5s up front.

btw- buy components from a good mid-level company like boston, infinity, rockford, audiobahn etc. just get the cheapy ones from one of them.

i plan on getting bostons, i've always liked the way they sound as door speakers. i like the subs but they're just not for me.

bawstuns rawk!!! i'm gonna get me the rally 5x7 compnent for my front doors as soon as i find out what my dealer cost will be! woohoo!! right now i have polk dx7's in front (yes they sound wonderful) and stock newspaper speakers in the back....
