Oh! And!!!!!! Budget is prefferable less than 20k but up to 25k. his parents want FCA and BSW, as well as the reverse cross traffic thing, tho cross traffic isnt mandatory.

Considering his budget, I would look into 2011 and up four door Ford F150 pickup trucks with a 5.0L V8 over a 4th gen Explorer/Mountaineer.

I am not sure what you are referring to.

blind spot monitoring and foward collision warning (sry its fcw not fca)
also what are your thouths on a 2016+ f150? do they make reg cab short bed w/a v8? thanks.

You won't find these features in 4th generation Explorers and most pickup trucks. I like the 2015+ Ford trucks as they have aluminum bodies and are around 700 pounds lighter than previous models. Ford options V8s in all their F150 models.

my cousin is being indecisive and looking at rangers now... what are yalls thoughts on a 2011 Sport supercab rwd 4.0 with the 5 spd manual. it has 80k miles... are they safe? thx.

the 4.0 is pretty solid motor he just can’t act like a he has a race car with the stick shift and bring it to redline or it won’t last. And the rangers are pretty safe accident wise aren’t gonna take the hit as good as a 4th gen explorer but it’s still gonna take it better than most sedans. Last thing If you live in an area with any sort of snow or frequent bad weather he may want to look for a 4wd model as bad weather+rwd+no weight truck bed=not a fun time with good snow tires it’s doable but he’s gonna wish he just had 4wd from the start.

Also it his parents choice but my sister learned to drive with all the fancy driver assists and i personally think it just makes you a lazy driver. Every time I drive a newer car I just constantly find myself looking everywhere but the road. Blind spots? Check your mirrors there for a reason :) Forward collision warning? I don’t know maybe look for brake lights and slow down when you see them? Lol all jokes aside your not getting any 2011 ranger with any of that your gonna have to go newer for all the fancy gadgets and such

Ah. Ok. It would be rly good if ford brought back the reg cab short bed 4x4 with a stick.... and maybe a V6?????? *hint hint ford*

welp we got him a 4th gen X with the 4.6 in 2wd (he lives in CA) hes enjoying it to the point where i might get one for myself and build that as a dd/offroader 😂 (ya know like FRPP cams, mufffler/res delete, k&n and all that jazz)

Skip all that and just put a twin screw or Roots blower on it. What a 5k+ pound off road vehicle needs is low/mid range torque. One of these will deliver that in spades on a stock engine and be the most economical choice in the long run. Then when you're done with the vehicle remove it and reuse it or sell it.

ok, so now im getting sht from others for encouraging him to get an "old car" ya ok u drive a benz of course its old to you... on the other end of the spectrum, theres a kid with an 81 celica... that thing is clean!!!! but some of the parents are also complaining hes spoiled and he has a 4.something gpa and wut not, so i think its ok for him to enjoy a 2010 x... what are yalls thoughts?

I don't see where a 2010 Explorer is either too lavish or too frugal. I think it fits right in the pocket of acceptable. Especially if he enjoys driving it. Also, I don't care much for what other people say regarding my personal affairs.

I can only say this; I wish I could've had a 2010 Explorer as my first car.

There's certainly far worse vehicles in many facets. As for those who complain, ask them if they're going to help buy him a brand new Lexus or some ****.. LOL

yep! agreed! also... to plan ahead when my 2nd gen kicks the can or is about to, if i get a 4th gen v8 4wd, should i install an LS in the rear? and how can i make it as competent offroad as my nearly stock 2nd gen, as i hear the 4th gens lack some travel... thanks! and sorry for sll the questions!!!

oops i just read the "nodded 4th gen best threads sticky! scratch the diff question!!!
new question: would this work, as i dont have the money for a torsen or anything much 😅
