I was just reading the thread about the Mazda 5-speed switching atf for gear oil and it got me thinking. My explorer is in the shop right now getting a new slave cylinder, pressure plate, clutch disk put it. I of course don't want to have to replace these anytime soon or have any other transmission problem (112,000miles). If the shop doesn't replace the fluid do you all think it would be a good idea for me to go ahead and replace it? Like with Royal Purple atf? Perhaps while i'm at it the transfer case with the same? Is there anything else I can do to keep my 5-speed and transfer case well? Just curious if this would be good preventative maintenance.

Synthetic ATF is a very good move. The only other thing I can think of is replacing the shift rail plugs. Check out the recomendation and part #'s for the job here: http://explorer4x4.com/tips.htm
