Got the wake up call at 3am Sunday morning from Chicago's finest. I thought it was a friend playing with me. The BMW hit me hard enough that I ended up with both rears WAY ON the grass and did some damage to the pickup in front of me. Several witnesses couldn't catch the plates but said the driver got out and looked at his car, got in, couldn't close his door fully and then high tailed it down the alley. I'm sure alcohol was involved at 2:15am.

There was significant transmission fluid from his car on the street. I sustained RR quarter panel, rear bumper, lift gate, FR quarter panel, front bumper damage. No tow needed though; I was able to drive it off the grass and park again.

So, unless they can find him I will eat the cost b/c collision in Chicago, even for a 13 yr old truck, wasn't justified. I've already started looking for a 99-01 4 door b/c I am pretty sure I am in the $2K range of repairs so it would be easier for me to take the loss since I've put roughly $3K into it in the last year alone. What a bummer....

I feel your pain. I had a mk4 Lincoln hit in a carpark by a nutter who was carted off to the loony bin. No insurance, no licence and no brain. What a bummer.

That sucks. I'd find out where Halle Berry was last night. :D

Time for a V8. :)

Yeah, any suggestions for a new rig are welcomed. Its a work truck, meaning I drive around all day and OCCASIONALLY carry a load. I would probably go with the V6 from a cost issue and chip it with intake but again, I'm game. I know I can find 99-01s with 35-50K miles in the $10K range here. That's kind of what I'd like to spend.

Sorry to hear that:( Now you can buy my truck:p

PMed ya.

Sorry to hear about that Ross, hope things work out.

No uninsured motorist coverage either? That shouldn't fall under collision as it wasn't your fault...

Thats a bummer, you got any pics from the accident? When I wrecked my truck, I didnt tell my insurance because they would have totaled it. Its just sitting outside for now. Never good news to hear about another wrecked explorer, but theres nothin you can/could do about it. I say you go for a V8, and stroke it. with a lift, thatd be sweet!

That's a helluva good price you're talking about. I bought mine in Milwaukee last summer. Tried to find a '98 or newer but couldn't, I got a '97 XLT 4WD with 75,000 miles for $8,000. I found cheaper but most of them had busted ball joints and other problems, the one I bought was the first one in perfect shape. Good luck...

Uninsured motorist coverage covers the other guy. We were hit by a drunk driver one night, no insurance, registration or license, while we went to call teh cops, they left. (they pulled out of a bar parking lot into us)
they did about $1200 of damage to my wifes car(only worth about $2000 at most. Our insurance wouldn't cover it b/c no collision, it should be the other guys ins who shold pay you. I don't remember exactly how to explain what they told me, but basically we got screwed. I fixed her car with $500 of junkyard parts, never got it painted (it's close, but not quite), and it goes off the road in about 2 weeks when the other ex goes on the road!!! :) finally

What stings is that I canceled collision on Nov 12 b/c it wasn't worth it on a 13 yr old truck:mad:

Stephen, you're right. It should be covered by his insurance but since no one got the plates State Farm can't prove he was uninsured. So I get stuck with it unless he pops up somewhere.

It is still driveable but with a rear bumper at a 20* angle from low left to high right and a front bumper and 1/4 panel that is quite an eyeful.

This may take a good swing at your ego, but if you have to drive it, you have to drive it. I know what its like :(

I am driving it and its ok but has a vibration at higher speeds that wasn't there before. All lights and signals work though.

Could be something as simple as a weight being knocked off the wheel, or something being slightly bent. At high speeds it don't take much!!

We bent most of the damage back into driveable shape and got rid of whatever vibration there was. Ill just let her keep getting banged up until she splits in half. She is now definitely just the work truck:(

However, I can now snag that 540 I've been waiting a long time for:D

how fast do you think you can jack a car up, and strip it down? Find his car, and you will easily pay for repairs ;) catch my drift?

Body shop says the frame is "diamonded" meaning that back got puched to one side and front to the other. Remains "square" in the sense that it is equal but out of true square. Its a total loss b/c of age and amount of damage--but not to me

$3K + in damage so Ill put her up for awhile and get her into the shop this summer. :hammer:
