Got my chip, is it the right one?

The installation instructions are for a 96 TO 2003, I called apten but noone there. I dont know if the chip is correct and just wrong directions or if the chip isnt right. Will my chip appear the same as a 2nd gen? I could maybe compare the two. Any help here is greatly appreciated and i can open it and post a pic if that would help you help me.

they prob sent the wrong directions. if the chip is the wrong one it will simply not start until the chip is not taken out. i can not stress enough how it important it is to clean the contacts perfectly

Ok thanks. I have been searching for some tips on the proper way to install this on my year and im not having much luck so any tips would help me alot.

ya once the connections are nice and copper color (on both sides) you may have to take the cover off of the ecu to get the botom. the clean them even though they wont look dirty. i used windex on a quitip. then put the chip in and secure it with duck tape and reinstall the computer

So a chip is something you add and not replace? Also are the ports i clean behind the service port cover then plug the chip onto that? Sorry but i have know idea what im doing, but im getting there. Thanks for the help.

once the ecu is out the directions are the same

you pull off the cover to get to the connections

One more question, does all the silver have to come off or do i clean then untill i start to see copper?

it all comes off but be careful not to go through the copper

I didnt have the contacts clean enough the first time but the second time it fired right up and it runs perfect. Thanks again for your help.

I know the chip should help with gas mileage but what kind of horse power increase does it offer? Is there somewhere that I could look at this information? Maybe base on all the explorer engine types(4).
